I have been having 'blog withdrawal symptoms' sounds like a new condition, wonder if the medical fraternity have written that into the annals of medicine? These are a few swing tags from my ever growing collection. Nice typographic reference, don't you think?
I know the book version of the videos on the chronicles have been a little slow in seeing the light of day, take comfort in the knowledge that they are in production. I hope you think they were worth the wait.
This is an Eric Fischl snack before the main course which runs 31st October 19th December at Mary Boone NYC. Shit luck for those of us don't live there.
Since I've been working on my books and films for the chronicles my regular posts have been gathering dust in the 'pending' folder. After those crazy kids I thought a return to my first love would be in order, so here goes.......
I'll be posting my first film this weekend. The chronicle, titled. 'the miracles of Saint Verde will follow shortly after the post. I was going to use WordPress but that's like teaching an old dog new tricks, so Lex set me up with a new blog, saintverdechronicles. For now though check this little 'beauty". These kids are kind of sorry results of what must be pretty screwed up parents who probably live in neighborhoods like the ones photographed by Alec Soth and Gregory Crewdson.
Wow, thanks for all the comments. The new blog concept is rocking along real well, I have the first 7 books done and dusted. I will still keep this blog open for those wanting to check out the archive, or the occasional new post. I'm moving over to Wordpress for the new blog and I'll keep you all posted. Please tell me you're excited about this 'cause I sure am. Kindest regards. Neville.
I have looked over my posts since I started my blog 6 months ago, all 220 of them, and I think there were a few really cool ones, however, I think the time has come to reinvent myself. I have decided to call this chapter a day. Thanks to all of you who visited the digest, most of all, thanks for all the amazing comments, not one of which was negative. The new concept I am working on is a lot more personal, as it will have simple text inclusions that represent the pages from my diary. These diaries, will be limited additions that always included something extra, like a photographic print, music CD, short film DVD, or a little keepsake. I'll post the full content in high resolution files, as well as giving some of them away to my followers, the balance of which I'll sell on line to recover the production costs. The first editions will be made up of images you are familiar with, but mostly the content will be new material. Till then, thanks again and again for your support. Fondest regards, Neville.
When it comes to product and furniture you must know by now that I tend to favor the old or more classic stuff, be that as it may I thought I would show you a few things of a contemporary nature that appeal to me. Looking at the images from my 'these are cool' file on product design I can see why I liked them, they're mostly a bit rough around the edges and kind of home made, not all slick and B & B Italia like. All this sharp hard new stuff looks like it was made for a show house rather than a house full of kids, dogs, cats and good friends getting drunk in the kitchen.
A while back I got myself totally lost in the Hedi Slimane site, amazing documentary style photography that gets under the skin of the subjects, often dark but never, blind. The indi rock culture of this shoot got me thinking about the early behind the scene shots of Elvis, I wonder how Hedi would of captured him? Sorry no link for Elvis, you're on you own here!
A few years back I was in Mozambique with my family for a little bo peep when, on one of the smaller islands we came upon this boarding house for passing seamen. I loved the desolate interior, kind of post colonial degeneration at its very best, the bizarre part was men actually stayed in the place, just enlarge a comp of the bed shots and imagine sleeping in them. Pretty rough I have to say, but then again the oddest stuff appeals to me.
Did I happen to mention that I have a thing for botanical photography? As I think about it, I guess that I have 'a thing' for for people who attack their craft with the passion of a person possessed, like Tom Baril, who shoots flowers just the way I like it, beautifully, or Elizabeth Peyton, an artist who moves paint around like the rock stars she loves as her subjects. Both of these artists have appeared on my blog before, and both deserve another shout.
I do my best to credit the artists and source references where ever I can, this time It's not so easy, they are diverse, and from my reference files that have no real order. Admin is not one of my strong points. These images are just a few of the ones that keep catching my eye as well as my mind. If you need to know who did what and where send me a mail.
